Volunteering

One of our most important values is our connections with you – the very essence of our existence is to provide pathways that will rekindle our traditional and instinctive commitments both to each other, our communities and to nature.   This is because we believe that although we have retained some instinctive intuitions the demands of modern life and the blank facade of our unfettered economic systems have caused for much damage.

We are united to one cause:

ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN- ONE GIANT LEAP FOR NATURE

However, we are all different and we each have very special and individual abilities, and by listening to each other we can share talents and achieve our most important goal, which is to reinforce our links with our natural environment and thus achieve sustainable development.

The Celtic Heritage Trust firmly believes that by providing catalysts for human interactions we can begin to reaffirm our commitments to each other and nature.  Individuals often become completely disempowered because of the isolation caused by the toils of modern life, so we like to provide as many opportunities as possible to bring like minded folk together to share both skills and ideas.

One way to create for a catalyst is to provide the opportunity for action volunteering – action meaning that our volunteers get involved in our activities - this could be anything from project management, conservation, festival help, poetry, writing, music and on occasion fund raising– Our ‘action’ volunteers are diverse in skills, come from a wide range of backgrounds and like nature are our most precious and respected resources.    So please consider how you could bring your much needed skills to our ever growing convergence of like minded individuals.  We shall look forward to meeting with you-

The Celtic Heritage Trust project management role is one that needs commitment in order that specific projects can be realised.  The characteristics of the project management team roles and responsibilities can be varied depending on the operation at hand, but in general the fundamental nature of management suggests that there will be some requirements for formal proficiencies.  All project managers receive training and support to enable them to fulfil their roles and we have a wide range of opportunities (see left) available to enhance their expertise and knowledge.

PROJECT LEADERS

Please look at our project listings to see what & how you may be able to develop and nurture your skills whilst making our world a better place!

Celtic Heritage Trust project leaders guide groups of action volunteers on a variety of practicable projects. These could include conservation- restoration projects to activities that engage with the creative and cultural industries.  As a leader you would help train volunteers in the skills necessary to work safely and complete tasks whilst ensuring that they are enjoying the experience.

You could have the leadership skills that we require- so please don’t wait – ask!  we would be delighted to have a chat with you and discuss how your skills may be fully realised.

How volunteering affects your benefits

Voluntary work is accepted as contributing to employability: If you are claiming Job Seeker's Allowance, you can volunteer for an unlimited number of hours as long as you: (i) are actively looking for work, (ii) can be contacted in the event of a job opportunity, (iii) can attend a job interview or start a job at 48 hours notice, (iv) are willing and able to give up or rearrange your voluntary work at any time to start a job.

If you are claiming Incapacity Benefit there is no limit to the number of hours you can volunteer.

Recognised training (e.g. towards NVQs) is allowed but must comply with normal study/training rules. Job centre staff will want to record your weekly training hours. The training must be on a part time basis. Benefits Agency staff should allow payment of expenses associated with volunteering, including accommodation. Please inform CHT should Job Centre staff not seem to be complying with the national policy on volunteering.
